We would strongly urge anyone considering booking a stretch limousine to ask about the company's licensing status and then verify this with the appropriate authority. No reputable company will object to being asked about their license, in fact, a professional licensed company will appreciate the fact that you have enough knowledge to ask the question.
Limousines & The Law - (28/01/08)
A recent change in the law has closed a "loophole" which allowed limousine companies to carry out their business without being licensed. It is now a requirement that ALL stretch limousines are appropriately licensed to comply with the law, the only exception being vehicles which are used solely for the purpose of weddings and funerals.
Most people are aware of the risks of traveling in an unlicensed taxi yet using the services of an unlicensed limousine company is no different.
No vehicles licensed by the local authority can carry over 8 passengers.
Vehicles with more than eight passenger seats are classified as Public Service Vehicles and must be licensed by the traffic commissioner. These vehicles require a COIF (certificate of initial fitness) and may only be driven by a PSV licensed driver. There are very few limousines in this country which meet the requirements for obtaining a COIF.
